Junior/Senior Major Changes This Year

  • All Jr/Sr Division Students must begin registration in STEM Wizard before November 1, 2024. Files and Forms must be complete, including signatures, by December 2, 2024 (with the exception of the abstract and Form 1C, if required).
  • No typed names will be accepted in the place of signatures on paperwork.
  • School Admin Access for STEM Wizard - Students will select a secondary teacher when registering. The secondary teacher should be the campus coordinator. They will be able to view all projects for the campus.
  • Students should not attach items to their project board other than paper and photos. No objects other than boards, binders, laptops/tablets and ISEF paperwork requirements are allowed in the exhibit hall. This means demonstration items are not allowed.
  • The height requirement has been changed to 8 ft from the floor. This means that two boards on top of each other will no longer fit. Tables are no more than 36 inches tall, so the height of the project board should be 60 inches or less (new in 2025).

Junior/Senior General Information

The Junior Division of the Greater Austin Regional Science and Engineering Fair (GARSEF) is a competitive event for 6th-8th graders. The Senior Division is a competitive event for 9th-12th graders. All participating students are required to register their projects through the STEM Wizard registration system and follow all the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) Rules with the exception that instead of the ISEF forms, middle schoolers (Junior Division) will submit the Safety and Consent Form for Texas Middle School Science Fair Students. Only projects that comply with all applicable ISEF rules are permitted to enter the Greater Austin Regional Science and Engineering Fair (GARSEF). Awards are given for 1st - 5th place winners in each category for each division as well as special awards. 1st - 2nd place winners advance to the Texas Science and Engineering Fair. The top Junior Division projects in each category are nominated for the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge. Six projects in the Senior Division are selected as Best of Fair winners and advance to the Regeneron ISEF competition.

Home schools and students attending non-participating schools are allowed to participate. Please email JRSRstaff@austinscience.org for more details.
